Maple Cardamom Apple Butter
We have two huge apple trees in our back yard and I am always thinking of ways to use them up. This year I tried making Apple Butter for the first time and I’m excited to share my recipe with you!
Ingredients
10 (small-medium sized) apples - cored, peeled and sliced
1/2 Cup of water
1/2 Cup of maple syrup
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
Directions
Simmer apples and water in a dutch oven for about an hour. As apples begin to soften, add maple syrup and spices and simmer for another 1-2 hours. Using an emersion blender or beaters, puree the apples to desired consistency. At this point I taste the apple butter and add more spices or syrup as needed. If the apples are tart, add more maple syrup to cut the acidity. If you prefer a more intense cinnamon flavor, feel free to add more!
Fill jars and store in the fridge for a week or so, or freeze for many months. Enjoy!
