10 Travel Tips!

My husband and I are spending this month in Indonesia visiting his side of the family! This is my fourth time traveling to Indonesia (which is literally on the other side of the world!) and each time I learn new tips and tricks to make traveling a bit easier. Here are ten things I’ve learned that I hope will help you on your next trip!

  1. Bring a scarf that can double as a blanket

This is a lifesaver when you are feeling chilly on the plane - or when you have to spend the night at the airport ;-)

  2. Compression socks are your best friend

Swollen ankles are no fun, especially when your running through the airport to catch your next flight! I wear compression socks from takeoff until I’ve reached my destination!

  3. Always pack a change of clothes in your carryon

Lost luggage is always a possibility. Pack an entire outfit (don’t forget underwear) in your carryon just in case! It’s also nice to change into fresh clothes upon arrival to your destination!

  4. Pack something that makes you feel beautiful

Traveling is exhausting; by the time I get to my destination I feel tired and gross - so I started packing a toothbrush, wet-wipes and a pair of statement earrings that help me feel fresh and beautiful upon arrival!

  5. Wear cozy clothes

Airplanes can feel cramped so wearing your favorite pair of yoga pants is the best! This also helps to get through security with ease - no belts or buckles to slow you down.

  6. Wear breathable, close-toed, slip-on shoes

On this trip I finally invested in the perfect traveling shoe! They are made of breathable canvas and convert to slip-ons if desired. They make getting through security even easier!

  7. Don’t forget adapters

When traveling internationally, always pack an adapter in your carryon. Pack the correct adapter for every country you may travel through so you can charge electronics during layovers!

  8. Bring your own pharmacy

We travel with vitamin C, ginger chews, cough drops and Tylenol close at hand!

  9. Stretch regularly

I try to stretch at every opportunity - instead of sitting at your gate, try standing or stretching or even doing yoga! During long flights, try to get up every few hours to keep your blood circulating.

  10. Stay hydrated

Drink, drink, drink!! Depending on where you’re traveling, it may not be safe to drink tap water - so buy plenty of bottles! (In Indonesia we even use bottled water to brush our teeth!)
